Gorilla in Bwindi

To Bwindi on Day 1.

You can reach the impenetrable forest (Bwindi) in southwest Uganda by road or air. It all depends on your budget. A road trip in a 4×4 safari vehicle to Bwindi is a bit tiresome but worth taking. The stunning hills and welcoming locals make this Ugandan gorilla safari special. During the road trip, we will stop for lunch at the Igongo Cultural Centre, near Mbarara City.

Guests traveling to Bwindi can book either a chartered or scheduled flight. They can fly from either Kajjansi or Entebbe to the Kihihi airstrip. The Kisoro airstrip is near Mgahinga Gorillas. A safari guide picks you up at the airstrip. They handle all transportation to the lodge and the national park.

Trekker Tavern Lodge, Haven Lodge, and Chameleon Hill Lodge are some of the lodges near Bwindi. Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge is one of the luxurious lodges near Bwindi.

On arrival at the lodge, check in and have dinner so that you can rest early. Rest early to feel fresh for your morning gorilla trek.

Gorilla trekking on Day 2.

The long-awaited day has arrived. This is the most important day during the 3 day gorilla trekking Uganda safari. Make sure you wake up early for breakfast. By 7:00 AM, you must have joined a group of other trekkers at the park headquarters. After a briefing from park officials, we’ll walk steadily into the thick forest for gorilla trekking.

Tourists in gorilla habituation will spend a full day in the forest. They’ll be with researchers and rangers, observing the gorillas. A list of what to wear for gorilla trekking is a must-know.

You’ll see many flowering plants, various tree species, water streams, and lots of animals, especially primates. We mainly want to spot the gentle, shy apes. This forest is also home to chimpanzees, monkeys, birds, reptiles, and butterflies.

The ranger guides usually know where the gorillas spent a night, so finding them won’t be as difficult as you think.

Once you find the gorilla family you are seeking, you may take photos to remember this magical experience. Remember, no mountain gorillas are living in captivity. Other gorilla species are in zoos, but not mountain gorillas. This makes trekking with mountain gorillas a rare experience.

After the trek, we will return to the lodge for lunch and rest. Most guests join activities like community visits, hiking to waterfalls, biking, and boat trips. When you finish enjoying the extra activity, the guide will escort you to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Back to Kampala on Day 3.

On the third day after your magical experience, we’ll head back to Entebbe or Kampala. You can choose to fly home or stay overnight. There will be a stopover for lunch in Mbarara and at the Equator in Kayabwe.
