What to wear gorilla trekking
What to wear for gorilla trekking.
Trekking safaris in hilly, forested, and slippery landscapes can be challenging at times. That is why we need to plan what to wear for gorilla trekking.
Wet seasons demand consideration for what to wear in Uganda during the trek. Bwindi, being a forest located south of the equator, receives rain at any time of the year.
Packing warm clothes for wearing before and after trekking is essential. Clothing that blends in with the surroundings is the best choice.

Clothing that makes you feel at ease and light is a perfect choice for trekking. Tracking gorillas can take 2 to 6 hours.
What you put on for trekking should be able to cover your entire body. This will keep you safe from thorns, insect stings or bites, and itchy plants of the old-growth forest. Try to avoid very bright colors.
What to pack
Before your trekking expedition, consider packing the following:
- Waterproof and lightweight hiking boots. Fitting and comfortable boots that are waterproof are the best. Forests are muddy and wet at times. You might also cross several streams while tracking gorillas.
- Thick, long socks and leg gaiters. These protect you from insects, mud, and thorny or creeping plants.
- Waterproof trousers and gloves.
- Long-sleeved shirts/t-shirts. This clothing will protect you from creeping plants, insects, and thorns.
- Lightweight Raincoat / Ponchos: A raincoat protects you from getting wet while trekking.
- Wide-brimmed hat and any other things you deem necessary. Park staff often improvise walking sticks.
Whilst trekking, you might also need the following:
Drinking water, sunscreen, insect repellent, a camera, and binoculars are essential. A backpack is necessary for packing or stashing all that is not in use while trekking.
Porters are around the park. They help for a small fee to carry your backpack and any other things you are trekking with.
Always remember that a lot of comfort is necessary while trekking.
